Curiosity, Humility, and Having a Love of Learning

We received Azkia’s student performance review for sesion 1 yesterday. As usual, my favorite part is the tutor’s comment, it’s always interesting to read comment about other stuffs rather than academic.

Apparently, kids were recently completed a character traits survey and Azkia’s top three traits are curiosity, humility and having a love of learning. I think the curiosity and having a love of learning are spot on, both are Azkia’s strong characters.

Azkia always the curious one and always eager to learn something new. I remembered one day Azkia told me that she misses Ms. Sithra, her Geography-History teacher in Year 2 and 3. It was because of simple reason, because Ms. Sithra always answered her questions, about everything haha. Also, I observed that Azkia always very busy because she wants to do and learn something new. During this pandemic, during the lockdown period, she learnt how to knit and embroider. Youtube was her guru since I am not really into knitting or embroidery. But she did great, and now knitting is part of her habit and she able to produce few nice stuffs so far.

About the humility part, I talked to Azkia, I am curious to hear her opinion. She also not sure what is humility or why humility is one of her top character. So we learnt about this word together : freedom from pride or arrogance, the quality or state of being humble. I think this is also one of good character that I didn’t notice so far. But I think it is true, Azkia is always very positive and she hates bragging so much. She always reminds me not to post lot of pictures on IG, she is actually very simple person. I need to learn from her.

For the academic part Azkia is on track, meaning she is currently performing at the expected level for her target grade. I am still a bit confuse with UK National Curriculum grading system, but on positive side I am happy because no requirement to compare her with other student.

Similar with last year, Azkia has very high year end target especially for Science (7c) and Math (7b). She complained to me, saying that the year end targets are very high, which is I am agree with her. The highest target for year 9 is only 7a, it means by next year she would get even higher target than KS3 target. Being a parent I tried to encourage her. I told her this is a challenge, I know you can do it.

Hope Azkia would enjoy her journey this year. Time flies so fast, let’s just enjoy the moments together.
